55 Years Strong: Wilford Ewan’s Long Legacy of Service
Employees who dedicate their entire careers to Florida Crystals Corporation and our family of companies bring our values to life every day through their skill, loyalty and commitment. We are extremely pleased to honor and recognize one of our longest-serving team members, Wilford Ewan, Chief Body Specialist, for an extraordinary 55 years of service.
Over more than half a century, Wilford has built a reputation as the person who can do and fix almost anything. He has worked as a mechanic, welder, painter and auto-body specialist.
“When I go to work, I go to something that I enjoy every day,” Wilford says. “When I was younger, I was working to take care of my family. Now, my children are grown, and I continue to work because I still enjoy what I do. I have made great friends and relationships here that mean a lot to me.”
Originally from Jamaica, Wilford began his tenure cutting sugarcane before moving into other roles as the company recognized his skills and work ethic. He was moved to the repair shop as a utility worker, then learned auto-body work, welding, mechanics and painting before becoming a go-to expert on heavy trucks and equipment. Wilford appreciates the opportunity that allowed him to come to this country, provide for his family, learn his trades and build a rewarding 55-year career.
Today, Wilford’s focus is heavy trucks, where his vast experience makes him one of the first people called when vehicles need attention. From welding and painting to body work, he brings decades of hands-on knowledge to the repair shop and helps keep essential equipment ready for the field.
A trait that has set Wilford apart is his positive, do-it-all attitude. Throughout his career, he has never found a job he couldn’t do. That team-first approach has inspired those around him, including his supervisor of 23 years, Jim Brousseau, Jr., Regional Shop Manager.
“Wilford is a loyal, dedicated and exceptional employee,” Jim said. “He is a true inspiration to others. Not only is Wilford always ready to assist in any challenge, but he also takes great pride in the quality of his work.”
That steadiness has not gone unnoticed. Humberto Estevez, Shop Supervisor, has worked alongside Wilford for 17 years — six of them as his supervisor.
“Wilford has had a very positive impact on the team,” said Humberto. “He leads by example and is always willing to share his knowledge and experience with others. Newer employees can learn a lot from him, not just about the job, but also about the importance of dedication, reliability and professionalism. His work ethic and commitment are an inspiration to everyone he works with.”
Wilford says he keeps working because Florida Crystals has given him purpose, opportunity and strong relationships over the years. He enjoys staying active, helping train younger employees and being part of a place where he feels respected and supported.
For employees hoping to build a long career of their own, Wilford's advice is simple: be willing to start at the bottom, learn step by step and take every opportunity to grow. It is the same approach he has followed for 55 years, and the same approach he continues to pass on to younger employees in the shop.
Wilford said, “Sometimes, when you’ve been working at a place for so long, it’s hard to leave because the people treat you so well. They treat us with great respect.”
