Florida Crystals’ Rice Donation Helps Feed Louisiana Families in the Aftermath of Hurricane Ida
As a South Florida farmer, we know firsthand how devastated communities can be when hurricanes strike. That’s why we were pleased to help lend a hand with hurricane recovery in Louisiana by donating our locally grown rice, milled at our Sem-Chi Rice Mill, to Second Harvest Food Bank in Southeast Louisiana, which will help feed more than 7,000 families who are still working to recover from Hurricane Ida.
Hurricane Ida came ashore in late August as a Category 4 storm. The high winds caused widespread damage and left much of the New Orleans-area without power. It also shut down our subsidiary ASR Group’s refinery outside New Orleans.
Working together with our colleagues at ASR, we were able to supply staple foods and water as well as provide financial assistance to aid with recovery efforts.
